For over a decade, Chris Ledesma has played an integral role in West Sacramento’s growth as one of the region’s most attractive places to live and run a business.
As a planning commissioner first appointed in 2001, Chris served as chair for five years. Under his leadership, West Sacramento developed award-winning housing and retail projects, brought in new employers such as IKEA, Target and Nugget Market, and was influential in the approval of the Bridge District plan near Raley Field.
After being elected to City Council in 2010, he quickly established himself as a leader on fiscal responsibility and economic development. He’s been a strong advocate for the city to have a balanced budget and an efficient government, while preserving public safety.
As chair of the Mayor’s PRO-West Sac Task Force, he led a group of regional business leaders that developed the strategies that will propel West Sacramento’s next phase of economic development and infrastructure. He has been steadfast in collaborating with business leaders to make the waterfront development happen, with key housing and business projects now in construction in the Bridge District and the Washington District.
During his first term, he has helped West Sacramento secure more transportation and city infrastructure, including a new streetcar system into Downtown Sacramento, and also three new bridges – one of which is under construction today.
He has been a champion for our local business community and has helped establish a can-do culture at City Hall that retains local businesses and attracts new investment. He helped the city establish itself as a Food Hub for the region, with international food corporations now headquartered in West Sacramento and a thriving Urban Farm in the Washington District.
Chris has fought for safer neighborhoods and routes to schools, and for more amenities for West Sacramento families, including the Clarksburg Branch Line Trail, the Farmer’s Market, new parks and bike trails, and The Barn project, coming soon to the riverfront.
- Chris currently serves on many city, county and regional commissions, including:
